State-Owned Mining Company Established to Oversee Government Stakes

Uganda has officially launched a state-owned mining enterprise tasked with managing the government’s equity participation in all medium- and large-scale mining ventures. The move follows enforcement of the 2022 Mining and Minerals Act, which mandates government stakes in mining operations. Officials say the company will act as both a strategic investor and regulatory partner to private firms, helping to ensure Ugandan citizens benefit more directly from the country's mineral wealth. The decision aligns with the country’s goal of increasing local beneficiation and reducing raw mineral exports.
